Issues: Small Business
Election after election we hear how important small businesses are to our elected officials, but yet we don't really see anything being done to help them. The current Administration campaigned on small business issues only to backtrack when it had to admit that the President’s tax increases will affect some small businesses. Our current Governor has done little to truly help small businesses grow and thrive. We need elected officials truly know the issues facing small businesses. Small businesses cannot be a group we think about only when its election time.
Small business owners are our moms, dads, families, and neighbors. If they truly are the engine driving our economy, in good times and bad, we need to treat them as such. Both parties need to do a better job ensuring that we don't place unnecessary burdens on small businesses. We need to fuel their innovation and encourage their contributions to our communities. We need more small businesses, not less. From a purely local perspective, the more our small businesses succeed, the more tax revenue and job creation we have in Virginia. Eventually, many small businesses will grow into large businesses, thus creating more jobs and more revenue for the State. Even if they remain small and successful, they are providing stability and growth in our community.
We need to do more in the Federal and State markets to make it possible for more small businesses to compete for taxpayer dollars. We need to make sure that contracting rules are not so complex that it is too burdensome or costly for a small business to do business with the government.
Elected officials need to do a better job in recognizing the needs of small businesses and act on those needs. Small businesses have heard the promises before, but they are still waiting on the delivery.
